Adobe Creative Suite CS5: Beta Testing Photoshop

I have been a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals for a number of years now so when the offer came out that members could apply to beta test the Photoshop CS5 I jumped all over it. The first version I used in depth was Photoshop 5.0, so I was very excited to get the opportunity to try out the new version before it was release. I submitted my information to NAPP/Adobe and received an email with instructions to participate in the beta testing. For the last month I have been playing around with the exciting new features and have enjoyed the added functionality. You might wonder what these are, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow when Adobe releases Creative Suite 5. I am looking forward to integrating the workflow and new tools into my day-to-day work with CS5.

Ranch Rush from FreshGames

I have a iPod Touch which continues to amuse and waste time for me, but recently I downloaded FreshGames’ Ranch Rush. One of the more entertaining games I have played on the device. I don’t consider myself much of a gamer, I did have a bunch of the Nintendos back in the day, but the Touch has filled my gaming void via a hand-held device. Anyway, Ranch Rush is entertaining in that you get orders and fill them on a farm. You get to grow, make and raise all kinds of crops and animals which the choice gets larger as you progress through the game. The orders also get progressively harder as well making the game play fast and fun. My favorite and the most addicting part is the trophy room where different tasks are required to earn rewards, which aren’t all possible to do one time through the game. There is also novice and expert modes making the longevity of the game much better compared to others I have played. Definitely worth looking into if you are in the market for a fun, entertaining farm-themed game. Even better it sounds like Ranch Rush 2 is coming soon!

Flickr is still cool

I had been keeping my eye on Flickr in the back of my mind over the years as an option for sharing and backing up my photos. Facebook is nice to share with people on FB but they compress photos and don’t save the original, as do other social sites like MySpace. Anyway finally I made the jump and signed up for another “free” account and loved what I saw… upload multiple photos at a time, geo-tagging, great organization tools, and best of all it makes multiple sizes of the image. This is great because I can share with my family high res images so they can print them. The privacy features are nice giving control over who sees what. In my mind that is worth the $25 a year! Photo Prints

After listening to the Photoshop Guys talk about a company that they use to print their photos I finally got around to trying them out. MPIX is a print shop who has an excellent website to upload and do some basic editing. They have all kinds of products to print on.

For the first time, I wanted to see what they canvas gallery wraps looked like and also the different types of paper they print on. I ordered a couple of 6×9s and an 8×12. Some of them were Kodak E-Surface and the rest was on Kodak Metallic.

The metallic is a little more expensive but in my opinion well worth it. The e-surface is more of a matte finish and looks great. But the metallic’s glossier finish is amazing. The gallery wrap was equally impressive. I used to work with a Roland large-format printer so I have seen plenty of large prints on tons of surfaces.

Ontop of the quality product, I uploaded these files to MPIX’x website on Tuesday night and chose the 2nd day Fedex option and had my prints on Thursday morning. Overall great service, website and product. If your curious here are the photos I had printed.

Stella Artois – Le Courage

Stella Artois, a European brewery not only has super sweet beer that everyone should try it also has a couple of amazing websites. There regular site, www.stellaartois.com, is very entertaining with the its’ “cinema” style. It blends the borders of a websites navigation into a entertaining film(s). Classic example of an Advertainment in my mind.

They also have a new campaign called “Le Courage” where you bravely navigate the challenges of brewing beer in 1366. Again its a wonderful blend of advertisement and entertainment. It has a short, amusing story line which you play a simple short “game” to accomplish your task. The visuals themselves are a very well done flash piece that combines live action video with flash interactivity. Check out it out here.

Photosynth and SeaDragon

These technologys are going to be awesome for the web and interactivitiy, as well as browsing files on your own computer….it’s tied in with microsoft so hopefully they work on a universal version so everyone can use it…

Photosynth

The way I understand it is Photosynth links, searches and renders photos in a similar way that we hypertext does on regular websites. Using the Seadragon technology the products is a mash up of high res photos that create a 3d space.

check it out….if you have a pc you can try it out! sorry mac users:
